Greta, Chicago based senior, wanted to take pictures in her favorite city – New York. As a traveling, destination photographer, that’s up for any challenge, I couldn’t say no to this adventure. We flew to NYC and had two full days to walk around, and find the best locations to shoot. I had my camera with me at all times, just incase. We walked 30k steps a day – but it was so worth it. We got to know the city and take amazing pictures at many different locations.
Central Park. I knew it was big – but that big? Its HUGE! I’m sure we only saw a fraction of it. Definitely a place to go back and explore more.
Brooklyn Bridge. It could be tricky to take pictures there. Its a well known place, that every tourist wants to visit. Lucky for us, it rained and I LOVE rain. Dramatic skies and less people or even no people. The other good option would be sunrise, when everyone is sleeping, to avoid the crowds. Its always busy there, so don’t cancel your photographer if you see the rain in the forecast, look how amazing those pictures turned out. Also weekdays are better than weekends.
Yellow Cab. MUST HAVE pictures inside the yellow cab. Its everywhere. Stop one, offer some cash, and have fun. We had no problem at all getting a driver for 10 minutes to let us use a cab for pictures.
Busy streets. If you have time, pack some outfits to change, and go out there! Any busy street during red light will work. Like I mentioned earlier, we walked 30k steps a day, and stopped in the streets where I loved the views, but not every photographer will do that 🙂 Also, not every client wants to walk long distances. Pick a street with people, cabs, buildings and get in there, and remember – be safe!
Architecture. NYC has so many building, so just keep your eyes open for unique details, doors, windows, and you will find it – beauty is everywhere.
